story time: the most effective wake-up call ever.

We have these neighbors.  They keep us on our toes.

Two or three times in the past few months we've woken up in the middle of the night to some really impressive screaming matches between two guys.  Yelling, banging and slamming doors, that sort of a thing.  They usually only lasted about five minutes, and I always fell right back asleep.  As long as weapons aren't firing off, I'm still looking for sleep.

Yesterday morning we woke up again from loud noises, only we heard things like "Police open up!"  and "We have a search warrant!" and shattering glass!!

There's nothing like waking up to those sounds and really quick thinking back to anything bad you've ever done and wondering if any of it is punishable by law.

Also, the solution to waking up in the morning is to have a SWAT team search your neighbors house and break their windows.  I didn't even need to press the snooze button once yesterday!

Anyway, we have no idea what happened.  Ironically, we live right next door and could hear everything probably better than anyone else, but we have the worst vantage point to actually see anything and are therefore clueless as to the crimes of our neighbors.  (I do find it interesting though, that a SWAT team carried out the search warrant when usually the regular old police can do that themselves?  So we suspect it was probably something serious.)

I guess it would be more accurate to say, we HAD these neighbors.  Our landlord informed us of their immediate eviction, and thank heavens because rude awakenings in the middle of the night are not my jam.

Also, somewhere between listening to the home invasion and seeing that our whole street had been blocked off, I mentioned that I still don't exactly feel unsafe living where we live.  Jon seemed to agree.  So perhaps the remaining question isn't, What did our neighbors do, but Are we bonkers out of our mind?

In conclusion, we are safe, our neighbors are shady, and hopefully the next people who move in next door are normal.

  1. Thank you for finally using capitals. You've been killing me for years now.

And now I'm curious. What is the worst thing you've done in your lifetime?
