the open road, the path of greatness, it's at your fingers

in my book, there are two kinds of packing: the best kind of packing, and the worst kind of packing.  judge for yourself from these pictures which is which.

speaking of books, i'm so glad to be able to read on this trip!  i've completed a total of one book this summer, and it was meant to be read for a class that i'm not even taking anymore.  i'm more than ready for the adventures in the backseat - reading, writing, and staring out of the window into the beautiful landscape.

the most interesting thing about being on the road is going to be the variety of tunes we'll have playing in the car.  we've decided that whoever drives gets to choose what to listen to, and this is pretty much how it's going to map out:

kristin:  "kool jams" and talk radio.
diana:  upbeat, pop music.
sam:  general conference and country music.

it's slightly unnerving that we all have different tastes, and i'm probably going to pop in my headphones when it's not my turn to drive.  i just hope i don't get sick of my stuff and can keep my sanity if my headphones break or something.

so here's to the promise of good memories in the future!  we gon' have a bomb-diggity good time.

"For West is where we all plan to go some day.  It is where you go when the land gives out and the old-field pines encroach.  It is where you go when you get the letter saying: Flee, all is discovered.  It is where you go when you look down at the blade in your hand and the blood on it.  It is where you go when you are told that you are a bubble on the tide of empire.  It is where you go when you hear that that's good in them-thar hills.  It is where you go to grow up with the country.  It is where you go to spend your old age.  Or it is just where you go."
